Hamburg (dpa) - The European ports make front against larger and larger container ships. Currently, the largest freighters are around 400 meters long and more than 60 meters wide with a draft of up to 16.50 meters. It should also remain from the point of view of the port operations, said Gunther Bonz, President of the European Port Association Feport, the dpa. The ports fear, however, that shipowners and shipbuilders are planning a new generation of ships, with 460-meter-long and 68-meter-wide giant ships. In order to limit ship sizes, ports want to use the leverage of antitrust law.
