Carmen Goudar, a family doctor for primary health care at a health center in Seville, Spain, told the Confederation about possible diseases that appear in the summer and how to prevent and treat them.

In the summer, people take to the streets to spend their leisure time in gardens, swimming pools and open spaces, but these places can be a source of some diseases, due to the proliferation of insects or the increased use of water.


The following is a list of the most common diseases in the summer:

Inflammation of the stomach and intestines
A type of gastrointestinal disease caused by viruses or food is the most common and corrupt during the summer, the symptoms of abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting and even fever, and lasts this condition of three to five days.

the cure: Drink water in sufficient quantities, especially for children and the elderly, a fluid-based diet in the first stage, then a soft diet, as well as paracetamol when suffering and fever, and avoid eating diarrhea pills.

conjunctivitis
An eye disease, usually conjunctivitis, can be associated with colds. Its symptoms are eye itching, irritation and secretions, often lasting between five and seven days.

Treatment: It is recommended to go to the doctor for personal treatment and hand washing properly; being a contagious disease, being cautious in the swimming pool, and taking care to dry the eyes well.

Insect bites
Usually caused by wasps, mosquitoes or fleas, and its symptoms are in jittery reactions - especially for people with allergies - along with inflammation and itching, and lasts for four to five days.

Treatment : It is sufficient to use pharmaceutical solutions for moderate reactions. For more complicated cases, it is recommended to go to the doctor for a specific treatment. The reactions are met with corticosteroids. It is recommended to avoid approaching areas where there are many insects and to use repellents to avoid bites.

Colds
It can be caused by the misuse of air conditioning. Dr Goudar says the change in temperature during the summer leads to similar cases of the bad cold we face in the winter. The symptoms are nasal congestion, sore throat, headaches, muscle aches and fatigue, Three and five days.

Treatment : These conditions do not require medical attention. Paracetamol can be taken in the event of fever, and it is advisable to avoid sudden changes in temperature and to prevent infection.

Dermatitis
There are two types of dermatitis: one is caused by sunburn, the other is caused by sweat. The symptoms are skin irritation and redness with pain, and may be accompanied by blisters in severe cases, while the second cause bubbles on the skin and relaxation accompanied by itching and pain. These symptoms last between three and four days for sunburn, and up to ten days for those resulting from sweat.

Treatment Sunburn is treated with water, vinegar and sunburn preparations. It can be prevented by applying sun creams, while sweat burns depend on the age of the affected person.

Bathing is recommended daily if burns occur in children between the ages of 2 and 3 years, and can be treated through the use of skin scrubs daily.

Skin stenosis
It is an inflammation of the skin caused by bites, and is prepared, and is usually spread in the swimming pools, mainly due to the common use of towels, the symptoms in the yellow crust usually consists of bites and small blisters, and lasts ten days.

Treatment : If the sting is mild, the wound can be cleaned with a disinfectant, while it should be treated with topical or oral antibiotics in some cases if it is more severe.

Nail care is recommended as well as avoid swimming pools to avoid infection to prevent exposure to inflammation.

Osteoarthritis
It is inflammation at the level of the ear canal, usually due to water retention in the ears in the swimming pools, the symptoms of pain in the ear or secretions, and a period of up to a week.

Treatment : Antibiotics in the form of drops, advised to use earplugs and dry the ears well and avoid dipping your head in the water to avoid exposure to inflammation.

Cystitis
A mild urinary tract infection is usually caused by long-term wet clothing. Symptoms are irritable when urinating. However, if the problem becomes more severe, it can lead to bleeding in the urine, severe pain and even fever. These symptoms can last for several days.

Treatment : Drink plenty of water, eat cranberries if the inflammation is mild, antibiotics should be taken if the inflammation of the bladder is acute, and it is recommended to perform exercises at the level of the pelvic floor area to prevent these cases.

Fungal infections
This disease is mainly known as fungus. It is inflammation of the skin. It is often found at the foot level due to sweating or not drying well. It usually occurs at the level of toes. It causes cracks in the skin and severe itching. It can last up to two weeks.

Treatment : You should go to the doctor and follow a specific treatment, it is advisable to wear cotton socks and take off during sleep and wear sandals made of leather that will help absorb sweat to avoid exposure to the disease.
