“Since Roskomnadzor has repeatedly declared the use of the principle of“ mirror image ”in the case of a biased attitude to domestic media abroad, we officially announce the preparation of amendments to Russian legislation in the coming days. The purpose of the amendments is to bring the standards applicable to foreign media that work in Russia into line with British standards, ”the ministry said.

This statement was made after Ofcom, a British media regulator, imposed a fine of £ 200 thousand on the RT channel for "violating the principle of impartiality."

Roskomnadzor noted that the channel for consultations with the British media regulator is already open.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the amount of recovery imposed by RT allegedly for “insufficient impartiality” raises questions.

According to the agency, the fine to the Russian TV channel exceeds similar penalties in relation to other media outlets that were accused of inciting hatred and violence.

RT called the decision Ofcom outrageous.

In December 2018, the results of the Ofcom investigation were announced, which considered that RT had violated the broadcasting code in seven episodes.
