Russian boxer Maxim Dadashiv died of his wounds after the "right side of the skull" was removed by surgeons to ease the swelling of the brain that he suffered as a result of successive blows he received in his head during his dismissal against Puerto Rico boxer Sabril Matthias on Saturday in Washington.

The 28-year-old has struggled for 11 rounds in which he suffered repeated head-to-head blows without falling or giving up despite being clearly hit, forcing his coach Bodgie McGrath to ask for the match to end.

After the verdict was announced, Dadashiv collapsed and lost his consciousness. He was taken to the hospital where he was admitted to the operating room to remove a bloodbath in the head that caused damage to his brain.

The operation failed to save the life of the Russian boxer who had fallen into a coma before the Russian news agency Tass announced his death on Tuesday.

The defeat of Dadashiv in front of Matthias (never beaten) is the first in his career in boxing, where he fought 13 defeats won all.
