Twenty-one departments of the South-West and Central-East have been placed on alert orange heat wave, as early as Monday, thus whistling the kick-off of a period of high heat.

Monday's weather will be marked by the beginning of a new heat wave, according to Météo-France forecasts.

21 departments on alert

Twenty-one departments in the South West and Central East were placed on orange alert for heat wave from Monday 6 am. This sharp rise in temperatures from the south will kick off a period of intense heat, the second in less than a month, which "will save few regions," according to Météo-France.

The departments concerned for the moment by this orange vigilance are: Ardèche, Ariège, Aveyron, Charente, Charente-Maritime, Corrèze, Dordogne, Drôme, Haute-Garonne, Gers, Gironde, Isère, Landes, Lot, Lot-et-Garonne, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Hautes-Pyrénées, Rhône, Tarn, Tarn-et-Garonne and Haute-Vienne.

Up to 38 locally

Monday, we will still enjoy a little cool on the northern half to Auvergne, with 11 to 16 degrees in general. On the other hand, on the South-West and from Lyonnais to the Mediterranean regions, one should reach already 16 to 21 degrees, locally 22 to 24 near the Big Blue. In the afternoon, the heat will remain reasonable from Brittany to Hauts-de-France and Ardennes to Alsace with still 28 to 32 degrees inland, 21 to 26 on the Channel coast.

Elsewhere, thermometers will climb between 31 and 35 degrees in general, up to 36 to 38 on the plains of the Southwest, in some valleys of Auvergne, and south of Rhône-Alpes in the interior of Languedoc-Roussillon and of Provence.

Clouds not completely absent

Side sky, we will observe some morning greyness around the Gulf of Lion, the Côte d'Azur, on the Normandy coast and from the west of Brittany to the Vendée. These low clouds will progressively decline in the sea. On the Pyrenees, the southern Alps and the Corsican mountain, clouds will burgeon. They will lead to some stormy showers on the east of the Pyrenean chain in the afternoon. On all the rest of the country, the sun will prevail. It will be temporarily veiled on a large north-east quarter, then to Auvergne Rhône-Alpes and PACA in the afternoon.
