MADRID (Reuters) - Real Madrid have entered into direct negotiations with Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, who has agreed to move to Santiago Bernabeu on the condition that he earns the equivalent of 30 million euros in Cristiano Ronaldo's salary.

Real Madrid are interested in signing the Egyptian star to bolster his stellar strength after the Paris St Germain Neymar deal failed, the Spanish football website Don Ballone said.

The Madrid bid coincided with a new offer by Liverpool to keep Sala up until 2024 to double his salary to $ 537,000 a week, a total of $ 28 million a year, to be the highest paid in the English Premier League.

Last year, Liverpool extended Salah's 27-year contract to 2023, but the new extension was his main goal to break the big European teams that he might want to include in his squad.

Zidane was impressed with Salah, and Meringue had a desire to sign him after Ronaldo's departure to Juventus last summer.

Salah has scored 54 goals in 74 appearances since joining the Reds in 2017 and has been crowned Premier League top scorer for two consecutive seasons. Last season he helped Liverpool win the Champions League and second place in the English Premier League behind Manchester City.
