Turkey's elected mayor began a bold and unusual start when he set fire to the mayor's chair after announcing his victory in local elections on March 31.

The "burning ceremony of the chair" was held in the Bustan area in the southern province of Khermras to the new mayor Mohammad Gurbuz, candidate of the ruling Justice and Development Party led by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Gurbus chose to set the fire on the chair to indicate his lack of thirst for power.

During a speech on the occasion, Gurbuse urged his supporters to be humble and pledged to work hard to overcome shortcomings.
