"In pursuance of the instructions of the commander-in-chief Maduro, our commander Remihio Ceballos ordered the armed forces to turn around on the border with Colombia to protect the peace and security of the people after the border was closed," a Twitter message said.
Earlier, Venezuelan vice-president Delcy Rodriguez said that the authorities had decided to temporarily close three bridges to Colombia.
She added that the bridges will be opened when the "brutal acts of violence" against Venezuela cease.
