The Sysem, the waste treatment union of the South East Morbihan, offers tours of the Vannes sorting center, during the European week of waste reduction. We advise you, it is very instructive.

To help us reduce the volume of our non-recycled waste, the Sysem, the waste treatment union of South-East Morbihan has set up about fifty workshops and visits, from November 17 to 24, 2018, within the framework of European Week of Waste Reduction. Before the first visit, we reveal the five reasons to go.

To find out how our waste from the yellow bin is treated

Brave little hands? Robots ? A very sophisticated machine? Have you wondered how are your plastic bottles, empty cake packages and other cans or food blocks sorted? To discover it, you must ask to visit the Venesys recyclable waste sorting center of the Sysem.

Installed in the industrial area of Prat since 2010, it sorts and packages, per year, 15,000 tons of recyclable light packaging and paper. 34 sorting agents take turns around treadmills and tromels able to make coarse sorts according to the size, the weight, the matter and the color thanks to cameras, magnets, jets of air, simply the gravity and the eye and the expert hand of its agents who correct the errors or errors of the machine.

To no longer make a sorting error

If the machine makes few mistakes or omissions, around 5%, which reduces its efficiency, it's our sorting errors. Batteries, battery, household products, textiles, etc., kilos of non recyclable waste, here, are spread by hand by agents after the opening of the yellow bags by the crocodile, a pendulum equipped with points which rips them on the feeder. Arrived here, they can not be valued as waste, worse they can damage the machines or even injure the agents with sharp objects or splashes of irritating products.

To think of the sorting agents who will open our trash

When we visit the sorting center, the first observation we make is that the contents of our yellow bins that may look clean and odorless compared to that of household garbage, is not that much ... And going behind you to remove everything that should not be there is not an easy task. Also, the agents turn on the various sorting and maintenance stations to avoid staying more than an hour in the same posture to sort the eyes on the carpet.

To realize the amount of waste produced

If we take a good conscience by filling its yellow bin thinking it will be recycled, it remains waste that we could perhaps do without. And all can not be recycled, including anything less than 5 cm like caps separate bottles, but also the famous plastic knives and forks. That is why they are the subject of a bill banning them.

To think before buying

Do you necessarily need cardboard packaging around your tube of toothpaste? Or plastic film that wraps your two bottles of two shampoos? The easiest waste to recycle is the one that is not produced. And do not feel guilty thinking about the job, the agents of the sort do not miss it and should not miss it. The challenge of tomorrow: encourage tourists from the Gulf of Morbihan to sort too.

From 17 to 24 November 2018, the Sysem, the waste treatment union of South East Morbihan, will organize about fifty workshops and visits as part of the European week of waste reduction.
