The New York Daily News fires. Half of the editorial positions of the newspaper are at stake for this daily opposed to Donald Trump and who has already experienced several waves of layoffs in recent years.

It is an institution of New York life that collapses. The Trunk group, owner of the New York Daily News , decided to cut half of the editorial staff, which now had only 85 employees.

At the peak of its glory in the 1990s, the Daily News sold up to 750,000 copies a week. 20 years later, his sales dropped by half. And with them his advertising revenue.

The tabloid was caught between the meteoric rise of the New York Times by readers outside New York, and fierce competition from the city's third largest newspaper, The New York Post.

Owned by Ruppert Murdoch and his press group, New Corp, the Post has been able to penetrate the Internet thanks to its well-researched information on the intimate life of celebrities.

Relatively non-political, the Daily News has emerged since the election of Donald Trump, a stronghold of resistance against the president. With this new wave of layoffs, it is his survival that is at stake, deplore the specialists.
