A smell of fresh paint comes to the nostrils when entering the brand new buildings. This Saturday, October 20, 2018, the two new health homes of Ambrières-les-Vallées and Oisseau (North Mayenne) were inaugurated in the presence of many elected officials and health professionals.

be able to work with nurses, for example when there are difficult cases or complex dressings. For me who was an isolated doctor, it is also the opportunity to work with a colleague or an intern, " says Yohann Marchand, general practitioner in Oisseau for nearly 6 years.

It was Mayenne's sous-préfet, Noura Kihal-Flégeau, who cut the inauguration ribbon.

"In the long term, if we did nothing, our doctor would surely have left and the pharmacy would have suffered," says Stéphane Manceau, Mayor of Oisseau.

Fight against the medical desert

The area of ​​the new Ambrières-les-Vallées medical building is 485 m². It will host four GP surgeries, a podiatrist, a physiotherapy area and several nurses. That of Oisseau meanwhile, of 121 m², will be the headquarters of two general practitioners and three nurses.

"We do not want to build an empty shell , " recalls Bruno Lestas, president of the common community of Mayenne bocage.

And the elected representatives are unanimous, the opening of these two establishments is also a way also to fight against the medical desert. "The renewal of doctors was going to be difficult. One of them is dead and the others are close to retirement. The expectations of new generations are different, they want to work in teams and in a pleasant setting , " Guy Ménard, Mayor of Ambrieres-les-Vallees.

The works will have cost a total of 1.215 million euros, partly subsidized by the State and the Region, for a project that will take nearly 5 years to complete.
