“Last week, I received a letter from Prime Minister May to renew Article 50 until June 30, 2019,” the text says.

Tusk noted that “in his letter, the Prime Minister states that the policy of the British Government is still to leave the EU in an orderly manner”.

“Considering the risks that brexit represents without a deal for individuals and businesses on both sides of the English Channel, I hope that we will continue to do everything we can to avoid this scenario. Therefore, I propose that we consider Prime Minister May’s request for an extension at our meeting tomorrow, ”the head of the European Council said.

He also stressed the need to “discuss alternative, longer-term expansion”.

"One of the options can be a flexible extension, which will last only as much time as necessary, and not more than one year," added Tusk.

Earlier, the House of Commons of the Parliament of Great Britain approved the May plan to postpone the Brexit’s term to June 30, 2019.
