WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US President Donald Trump on Tuesday vetoed a resolution adopted by Congress and set up emergency funds to build a wall along the border with Mexico.

"Congress is free to vote on this resolution and I have to veto it," Trump said at the Oval Office.

For the first time, Trump has vetoed his presidency more than two years ago.

"People do not like the word invasion, but that's the truth of the matter," he said, referring to illegal immigration.

Congress Thursday slapped Trump by adopting a resolution against the state of emergency he announced to finance the border wall, with the support of 12 Republicans in the Senate.
