It is noted that this decision was made at the request of the leader of the opposition parliament, Juan Guaido.

"The state of emergency is declared throughout the country because of the catastrophic situation that has arisen due to power outages," the agency cites the text of the relevant resolution.

Previously, Guaido, who declared himself the interim president of the Bolivarian Republic, called on citizens to take part in new demonstrations on March 12 because of the critical electricity situation.
