"To prevent a new rise in prices for gasoline and diesel fuel, it will be possible to either postpone the planned increase in excises, or to produce it only partially, for example, without an additional portion of 700 rubles," he said.

According to the expert, the situation on the Russian fuel market "will largely depend on the cost of oil and the ruble rate."

"And these two factors will be influenced by US sanctions against Iran and financial constraints on Russia ... In addition, the system of negative excises for processed oil is being finalized. Thus, in principle, a relatively flexible mechanism of price adjustment for the domestic market is created, "he said.

Deyev suggested that fuel prices by the end of 2018 could "move up a little faster than inflation."

"And next year everything will be determined by whether the new regulation will have time to come, or manual adjustment will continue," he added.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak said that the increase in excise taxes on fuel will not lead to a jump in prices for gas stations.

In the Kremlin, commenting on a possible increase in gasoline prices, stressed that the government is able to prevent the growth of fuel prices.
