The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, opened the Doha Forum in its 18th edition on Saturday, under the theme "Policy-making in an interconnected world".

During the opening speech, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad said that totalitarian and exclusionary conflicts are sweeping the world and producing regimes that do not recognize human rights, considering that repression, tyranny and violations have become a threat to humanity.

The emir of the State of Qatar said that the Middle East faces many challenges, most notably the Palestinian issue.

Technological development and open spaces made it difficult to muzzle the mouth and monopolize the word.

In another context, Sheikh Tamim explained that his country's position on resolving the Gulf crisis has not changed, which is the dialogue and non-interference in the affairs of the internal states.

The opening session of the forum, entitled "Formulating policies in an interconnected world", will take place and over twenty-five meetings over two days will address four main themes:

1- The security axis: includes the future of cyberspace security and how countries deal with it.

2 - The axis of peace and mediation: includes facilitating the peace process in the Sahel countries.

3. The axis of economic development: discusses the ability of emerging markets to generate growth and their impact on the global economy.

4 - axis of trends and transformations: examines the global political changes, including the role of Russia's developed world.

The forum will not overlook central Arab issues, as it will discuss the struggle for "justice" in Palestine, Syria and Yemen.

Representatives from the private sector, civil society and non-governmental organizations are participating in the forum. Among the participants are the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the United Nations General Assembly, the Prime Minister of Somalia and the foreign ministers of several countries including Turkey, Japan, Romania and Iran.
