The train carriages depart from the track and are diverted. The inverted carriages were torn out and the interior of the carriage became a mess.

The train, which carried 366 passengers in the Iranian prefecture of northeast Taiwan, was derailed at about 4:50 pm yesterday afternoon. Eight passenger cars left the track, five of which were reversed.

At least 22 people have been killed and 190 have been injured. It was the worst accident in Taiwan since the railway accident that killed 160 people in 1981.

The Taiwan Railway Authority is believed to have left the track with a curve of about 300 meters.

Local media reported that they were derailed because of unidentified objects on the tracks based on the testimony of the engineers, but authorities said they were investigating the exact cause of the accident.

The accident train is a model introduced by the Taiwan Railway Bureau in Japan in 2012.

The Chief Executive Officer received an immediate situation report and instructed him to rescue him promptly. Hundreds of soldiers and rescue workers have been fixing the scene of the accident, and railway operations in eastern Taiwan have been shut down.
