The new cultural museum in Basra (south of Iraq) opened its new building a few days ago, and allocated four halls for the Sumerian, Babylonian, Assyrian and Islamic civilizations.

The museum displays hundreds of precious artifacts, dating back to several civilizations, mostly small statues, cylindrical seals, jars, pottery tablets and coins.

The museum opened in the lake palace overlooking the Shatt al-Arab, one of the palaces used by the late President Saddam Hussein in the city of Basra.
