“If Russia withdrew from the European conventions, it would really shake Europe,” RIA Novosti quotes the head of the CE.

Jagland also stressed that if the country leaves the organization, Russian citizens will not be protected by European conventions and will not be able to apply to the European Court of Human Rights.

At the end of January, the chairman of the international committee of the Federation Council, Konstantin Kosachev, said that Russia allowed a scenario of a possible exit from the Council of Europe.

Jagland had previously declared the CE crisis against the background of the deprivation of Russia of the vote in the organization.
