The Saudi ambassador to Cairo, Osama bin Ahmed Naqli, said he has not made any media statements about recent events in Sudan or any recent case.

In a statement published by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Ambassador Naqli confirmed that the statement claimed by the Palestinian Independent News Agency (Sawa) that he had stated it, is a fabricated statement which is totally untrue.

He called on the ambassador to respect media professionalism and not to fabricate unfounded press statements.

"The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdul Aziz pays great attention to the aspirations of the Sudanese people and praises his patience for the difficult periods he is experiencing," the ambassador was quoted as saying.

"Saudi Arabia is closely watching what is going on in Sudan these days because of the economic crisis," the Saudi ambassador said. "Saudi Arabia is not concerned with running the country, but with the dignity of citizens and realizing their aspirations as well as the stability of Sudan."

The Ambassador called on the Sudanese authorities to refrain from using excessive force against demonstrators, to respect the wishes of the people and to guarantee freedom of opinion and expression.
