“During the process, fundamental principles of justice were violated, first of all, about the inadmissibility of giving retroactive force to legal norms. Evidence is ignored that refutes the involvement of Soviet military personnel in the death of civilians on that tragic day, ”the statement published on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The Foreign Ministry noted that “attempts by the authorities to falsify obvious facts with the help of judicial manipulations only reflect the destructive policy of the current leadership of Lithuania towards Russia”.

The ministry stressed that they will continue to provide the Russians, victims of judicial arbitrariness, with all the necessary support and assistance.

On March 27, the Vilnius District Court convicted the former Minister of Defense of the USSR Dmitry Yazov and the ex-KGB officer Mikhail Golovatov in the case of the events of January 13, 1991.

Employees of the Russian Embassy and Russian journalists were not allowed to the court session in Vilnius in the case of the events of January 13, 1991 in Lithuania, when 14 people were killed during the clashes.
