Laura Kovesi, a symbol of the fight against corruption in Romania, will be able to resume her campaign to become the head of the new European parquet. The judicial review of the magistrate was lifted. A decision that comes amidst a standoff between the European Union and the Romanian government around controversial reform of the judicial system. Brussels accuses Bucharest of jeopardizing the fight against corruption.

Until July 2018, Laura Kovesi was the head of the Romanian anti-corruption prosecutor's office. She had been dismissed by the Social Democratic government. Accused herself of corruption, the quarantine was finally indicted five days ago.

The magistrate denounced a campaign of intimidation to prevent him from accessing the head of the future European package. It is also the favorite of the European Parliament, Brussels has repeatedly repeated its support for the candidate.

The European Commission again raised its tone on Wednesday (April 3rd) threatening Bucharest with economic sanctions if the government did not put an end to its widespread offensive against the Romanian judicial system. The Social Democratic Party considers it too harsh on the facts of corruption.

The president of the party winning the legislative elections has himself been sentenced twice for electoral fraud and corruption. He is currently being prosecuted for embezzlement of European funds.

The multiple reforms carried out with the step of load triggered several waves of historical events. The Romanian liberal president has called a referendum on May 26 for " citizens decide whether or not they want corruption to become a state policy ."
