The extradition to the Hague of former Central African rebel leader Alfred Yekatom Rombhot took place this weekend against the advice of his lawyers who held a press conference on Tuesday morning. On Monday, the Attorney General explained the interest of seeing the former anti-balaka leader tried by the International Criminal Court, especially because all means for this are not met in Bangui. The defense does not agree.

The lawyers of Yekatom Rombhot decided to leave their silence. Mr. Ntiangaye considers that the rights of the defense were not respected during the transfer procedure : " Had it not been for our vigilance, I think that we would not have even been informed of this extradition procedure. It was like the impression that had a modus operandi of putting aside the defense lawyers who were regularly constituted by Mr. Alfred Yekatom. Throughout this procedure, we had not even been informed. It had been decided to embark him without being able to converse with his lawyer. Do you find that this is normal in a state of law? It's not normal .

The other lawyer of the former Central African rebel leader, Ndjapou, is angry: " I do not mean extradition. I'm talking about a kidnapping kidnapping. It's even at the Rambo ".

The latter does not understand why Rombhot is not tried on the territory: " We have the competent judges who can do the work that the judges of the International Criminal Court are doing. Why not put these huge resources at the disposal of Central African judges, Central African magistrates who I know who are competent to conduct investigations? We should not be minimized, that we make an inferiority complex vis-à-vis the judges of the International Criminal Court ".

A journalist questions the persistent nuisance capacity of the former rebel leader on the territory. His lawyer is reassuring. Rombhot would have " given precise instructions " to his men before leaving so that they remain calm.
