In CAR, deadly clashes took place in the city of Alindao on Thursday. The last balance sheet is 37 dead. The IDP camp with more than 20,000 IDPs has been targeted. Among the victims, the vicar general of the city, Blaise Data. An abbot is still missing. The reasons for these clashes are not yet clear.

After a series of attacks between the anti-balaka and the UPC, the latter allegedly attacked in retaliation the site of displaced Bishop, says a UN source. A version denied by the armed group that claims that the attack was conducted by self-defense groups, and that he went there to secure the area. The UPC was still in the bishopric Thursday night and says it will release the place as soon as the Minusca is ready to take over.

Many displaced people would have taken refuge in the bush. Testimonies reported speak of looting and fires. Long a main base of the group of ex-seleka UPC under the command of Ali Darass, Alindao is a city that is regularly subject to strong tensions.

The last big attack was in May 2017. Forty people were then killed. A humanitarian man was killed there last August and two peacekeepers lost their lives in the area. The NGO Ocha still denounced the " disastrous " humanitarian situation in the city, which has nearly 40,000 displaced people in five sites.
