KUWAIT CITY - Qatar's National Works Authority (QA) will inspect a number of asphalt road and asphalt projects in Kuwait, amid continuing complaints of deteriorating infrastructure in the country, Kuwaiti sources said.

The sources, who preferred not to be named, told Al-Jazeera Net that the Qatari and Kuwaiti sides would sign a bilateral cooperation agreement next week to share experiences in road maintenance projects.

She said the two sides held a workshop in Kuwait between January 15 and 17, during which the Qatari delegation was led by the Director of Laboratories Department at the Works Authority Khalid Al-Emadi.

The workshop ended with a preliminary agreement to be concluded by the memorandum of cooperation. Under this agreement, an ISO road lab will examine the asphalt road and asphalt projects in Kuwait as a third party representing the Kuwaiti government to the companies and consultancy offices executing the projects. Equip the Kuwait Road Lab with the necessary equipment and expertise.

Within the framework of cooperation, the country side examined three samples of the asphalt mixture used and the botulinum material as well as parts of the executed projects. The two sides will also exchange experiences to train Qatari and Kuwaiti cadres in the relevant bodies.

Kuwait's Minister of State for Housing Affairs Janan Bushehri told a news conference on Thursday that Kuwait would cooperate with its brothers in the GCC countries at the level of road laboratories and asphalt mix, referring to the start of the use of a global asphalt testing laboratory.

On the other hand, Boshhari revealed the transfer of leaders in both the Ministry of Works and the General Authority for Roads; to the government anti-corruption committee against the background of the sinking of the country after the rains in November.

During the month of Kuwait, heavy rain turned into Seoul in some areas, resulting in the sinking of a lot of cars. Many of the homes in more than one area have been flooded with water, a crisis that has exposed the dilapidation of infrastructure in the country.

Kuwaitis suffer from bad road conditions in the country and the return of street rubble to the front again after the rains. Kuwait ranked 61st in the Global Infrastructure Competitiveness Index from 140 countries worldwide.
