"The President of Russia expressed support for the legitimate authorities of Venezuela in the conditions of the exacerbation of the domestic political crisis provoked from outside," the Kremlin press service said.

As noted, Putin stressed that "destructive external interference grossly violates the fundamental norms of international law."

"He spoke in favor of finding solutions within the framework of the constitutional field and overcoming disagreements in Venezuelan society through peaceful dialogue," the Kremlin added.

Maduro, as emphasized, spoke about the development of events in the country and "thanked for the principled position" of Russia.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the US decision to recognize Juan Guaido as interim head of state is shocking.

On January 23, Parliament Speaker Juan Guaido declared himself interim president, the American side called on Maduro to hand over power to him.

As stated in Moscow, what is happening in Venezuela is a quasi-coup.
