The Dutch police are looking for the truck that sailed Friday evening from the Belgian border town Visé near Eijsden after causing a fatal accident.

In the accident, a fifty-year-old activist was killed in a yellow jacket. The man died on the spot.

The accident occurred during a blockade of the highway to Maastricht by about twenty people with yellow vests.

The Belgian police approached asked the trucker to put his truck in a parking lot a bit further away, but instead the driver went off, according to Belgian media. According to the RTBF channel, the truck had a Dutch license plate.

A spokesman for the police in Limburg said Saturday morning that in the Netherlands "in collaboration with the Belgian colleagues we are looking forward to the truck". The Belgian police have passed on "certain characteristics" of the vehicle to their Dutch colleagues, according to the spokesman. What characteristics they are, she does not want to say.

No Dutch demonstrators involved in blockade

As far as we know, no Dutch demonstrators were involved in the blockade of activists at Visé.

In Maastricht, activists in yellow vests walk with a black mourning band on Saturday afternoon during their weekly tour through the Limburg capital. The 'Yellow Hesjes' do that out of sympathy with the relatives of the "yellow warrior", they let them know via Facebook.

On Saturday afternoon, the Walloon 'Yellow Hesjes' will hold a commemoration at 14.00 hrs at the Liège-Guillemins station.
