HANOI, Japan (AP) - North Korea has said it is trying to crack down on the alliance between the two Koreas.

"North Korea is stepping up efforts to create a crack in the Korean peninsula," a report titled "North Korea is pursuing a crackdown on the ROK-US alliance" yesterday (local time)

After the North Korean summit in Hanoi that ended with "Nodil," the NYT said, "North Korea has consistently insisted that Korea should stay away from the US and pursue a joint economic project that is being restrained by US-led UN sanctions against North Korea."

"If North Korea fails to reach an agreement on denuclearization and sanctions, the president's hand is tied up," said the NYT. "The president's role as mediator has hit the wall since the Hanoi summit."
