“In principle, I would like this, but this is unrealistic today,” said Solberg, answering the question whether she would like Norway to join the EU.

She explained that “about 20 years ago” the authorities lost the general referendum on the country's accession to the European Union.

“But we do not think that today we could win due to the special interests of our people,” the premier noted.

At the same time, she stressed that Norway is a member of the common European space, the common market, and is part of the Schengen zone.

“We have very close cooperation with the EU, and we believe in European ideas of cooperation,” added Solberg.

At the end of January, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union reached a preliminary agreement on a new visa code, simplifying the procedure for obtaining short-term visas for countries cooperating with the EU in migration policy.
