Despite the success of the negotiations on the new name of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias threw in the towel. These negotiations ended last June with the signing of the Prespes agreement ending 27 years of disputes between the two countries.

Despite this, it seems that Nikos Kotzias felt isolated during the last Council of Ministers. In a message posted on the social network Twitter, he announced his disagreement with the decisions made by the Prime Minister and other members of the government on Tuesday, without giving more details. According to the Greek press, a dispute broke out during the meeting with Defense Minister Panos Kammenos, who opposed the Prespes agreement.

The decision of the Minister of Foreign Affairs puts Alexis Tsipras in a delicate position while tensions within his government are increasingly visible. In a statement, the Prime Minister's office immediately announced that he would assume the functions of this portfolio until further notice "in order to contribute to the realization of the agreement ".
