Argentina captain Lionel Messi has said he misses Cristiano Ronaldo, who left Real Madrid for Juventus last year, revealing the secret of Argentina's failure at the World Cup last summer.

"I miss Cristiano in the Spanish league, it was great to be here, although his presence bothered me because he was crowned with a lot of titles," he said in an interview with AC Milan's C5N radio station.

On the subject of his country, the "magician Argentina" blamed the poor performance of Argentina in the World Cup Russia to rush to give the players of the leading roles in the team.

"I think the change of generations was done in a sharp way, things should have gone on in a more gradual way ... Young players need more time and confidence," he said.

He added that he always recalled the events of his country's defeat at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, but vowed that his recent departure from international involvement with Argentina was a passing one, and he would not consider thinking of international retirement in the near future.

Messi returned to the international stage with Argentina last week in a 3-1 defeat against Venezuela, and this was the first match he showed with his country since his departure from international participation after the World Cup Russia.

Argentina took the World Cup back in the second round, and Messi - who never scored in the knockout stages of any of the four editions of the World Cup - was criticized by some fans.

Bolga said he was still saddened by the loss of the World Cup final against Germany in extra time, and warned the public not to raise expectations for Argentina's Copa America this year.

"Do you know how many times I have played in the finals and the number of opportunities we have? ... Things would have changed completely if we had managed to score in one of those opportunities."

"Let's be realistic, there is a need to do a lot of work to bring Argentina back into the big powers of the football world," he said. "The players in a few games have played for the national team, we have to be patient.

"I will extend my stay in the stadium for as long as possible," he said.

"I want to end my career in Newell's, but it's not easy. I do not really know how things will go," he said.
