“When the president today initiates changes, for example, that Ukraine is joining the EU and NATO ... this is pure populism and public relations during the election campaign,” Medvedchuk said on the TV channel NewsOne.

In particular, he noted that more than 30% of Ukrainians do not support NATO. The politician also stressed that this course would lead more to a split of the nation than to “civil consent”.

“Today, 42% support NATO, well, 44%. They are against 34-36%. What is the agreement of those people who oppose? ”- Medvedchuk asked.

On February 7, the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada voted in favor of introducing changes to the country's Constitution, which set the course for Ukraine to join the EU and NATO.

In September 2018, expert Alexander Okhrimenko commented in an interview with NSN that the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, had registered the relevant amendments to the Constitution in the Rada.
