The health simulation center of the South Brittany Hospital Group welcomes, on Friday, November 23 and Saturday, November 24, 2018, surgical trainees from the West. Diagnosis, crisis management in the operating room and announcement to the patient are among the selected scenarios.

In Brittany, apart from the Rennes and Brest university hospitals, the Lorient hospital is the only one to have a health simulation center. Inaugurated in 2014, it allows professionals to train regularly.

Surgery interns

These Friday, November 23 and Saturday, November 24, 2018, interns in Western Surgery are sticking to it. They come from Rennes, Brest, Angers, Tours, Poitiers. Simulation in initial training has become mandatory. The session was conceived by Dr Anne Desné (head of the digestive surgery center in Lorient) and Cécile Mongin (head of digestive surgery department), in liaison with Professor Karim Boudjema (CHU Rennes).

The relation to the patient, the announcement

In Lorient, besides the technical gestures (to face a critical post-operative situation, for example), the simulation allows the interns to train themselves to the communication, ie "to all the relational with the patient" .

"Unlike the Anglo-Saxon countries, we are still poorly trained in this aspect in surgery, and the patients are applicants and the staff too," explains Anne Desné.

Two sessions a year

These trainings for interns in surgery should continue in Lorient for two sessions per year.
