The double name of the new CDU leader Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer is obviously not just a problem for native speakers. As the news agency DPA reports, one is at odds abroad about pronunciation and spelling of the party leader - and created sometimes curious name variations.
In the Czech Republic, for example, where female names traditionally end in "-ová", the media refer to "Krampová-Karrenbauerová" or "Kramp-Karrenbauerová". And in Latvia, besides "Angela Merkele", there is now also "Annegreta Krampa-Karenbauere".
On the Iranian radio, on the other hand, the version "Ann-Geret Keraamp-Karen-Boer" was heard. In Arabic, where there is no "p" sound, the pronunciation seems a bit softer: "Kramb-Karrenbauer". And in France, the new head of the CDU is called "Anngret Kromp-Karrenboer", with emphasis on the last syllable.
Many foreign media give thanks to the abbreviation AKK. Perhaps also an alternative for the Chinese press: The 24 letters become twelve Chinese characters, each of which stands for a syllable: "An-ni-ge-lei-te Ke-lan-pu Ka-lun-bao-er".
