Horst Seehofer also wants to reach foreigners living in Germany. "My home policy is addressed to all people living in Germany, including those of other cultures and regions of origin," writes the Federal Minister of the Interior in a guest contribution to the "Welt".

"Anyone who views Germany as their homeland and identifies with our traditions, ways of thinking and living, usually integrates easily," writes the CSU chief.

After the incidents in Chemnitz Seehofer had called the migration question as the "mother all problems" and thus worried about indignation, Chancellor Angela Merkel contradicted him immediately.

A successful home policy must openly identify social changes and problems and deal with them, Seehofer continues in the guest contribution. In addition, she had to give answers to the search for identity and affiliation and thereby take the citizens "also emotionally". And she needs the state as a source of inspiration. Therefore, the Federal Government decided to found the "Equivalent Living Conditions" commission. "This Commission will be at the heart of my home policy," announced the minister, who will also be chairing the commission.

The commission, which includes federal, state and local governing bodies, will convene for its constituent meeting this Wednesday. It is to develop proposals on how resources can be equitably distributed in the future for all people living in Germany.

Seehofer wrote that it is looking for ways to strengthen the rural area, but also to improve the quality of life in cities and metropolitan areas. Each individual should have a chance at prosperity, access to education, housing, work, sports and infrastructure - "regardless of whether he lives in Gelsenkirchen, Munich, Prenzlau or Hamburg".
