US President Donald Trump ordered to lift additional sanctions against the DPRK, which, according to him, were announced by the US Treasury.

“Today, the US Treasury announced that additional large-scale sanctions will be added to those already existing in relation to the DPRK. Today I ordered to lift these additional sanctions, ”he wrote on Twitter.

It has been announced today that it has been added that it has been added. I have today ordered the withdrawal of those additional sanctions!

In this case, Trump did not explain what exactly the limitations in question. On March 22, the Ministry of Finance did not announce new sanctions against North Korea. Senior officials told CNN that they did not understand what the US president meant by sanctions.

The situation was not clarified by the press secretary of the White House, Sarah Sanders. At the same time, she said that the sanctions were lifted because of Trump’s attitude to the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

“President Trump likes Chairman Kim, and he does not think that these sanctions will be necessary,” she told reporters.

Earlier, on March 21, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on two Chinese companies for allegedly helping the DPRK to avoid sanctions. In addition, the Russian ships "Tantalus" and "Vityaz" were included in the list of alleged violators of restrictive measures. At the same time, the presence of vessels in the list does not mean automatic imposition of sanctions against them.

"The United States and our like-minded people remain committed to achieving the final, fully verifiable denuclearization of North Korea and believe that the implementation of fully relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council with North Korea is crucial to achieving a successful result," TASS quoted the Treasury Secretary. Stephen Mnuchin.

Such a “lifting” of sanctions against North Korea is Trump’s attempt to gain reputational points, said political analyst Alexander Asafov.

“Trump shows that he, if his counterparts comply with the agreement, is able to show mercy. These are certainly demonstrative actions made to obtain a media effect, including reputational. It is important for him to do such demonstrative attacks now and Korea is a very good story for this, ”he told RT.

At the same time, both Koreas are striving for unification, Asafov reminded. And in this process they went further than on denuclearization, the expert noted

“The goal of both Koreas is to unite, and they go to this goal much more efficiently than to the task that Trump declares - the irreversible denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. The North Korean leader understands that if he does not have weapons, the situation will be deplorable, ”Asafov said.

"There is no intention to make concessions to the United States."

Recall that the US-DPRK summit held at the end of February in Hanoi between the leaders of the two powers ended earlier than the previously announced deadline, and the parties did not sign the final agreement. Later, on March 15, North Korean Deputy Foreign Minister Choi Son Hee announced that the United States must change its position in order for negotiations to continue.

“At the moment we are not planning new negotiations with the United States until they change their method of calculation,” she cites TASS.

The “calculation method” refers to the political approach of the United States to determine the value of the actions of the DPRK on denuclearization and the corresponding response actions to lift the sanctions, the deputy minister explained.

"We have no intention to make concessions to the US requirements (put forward at the summit in Hanoi) in any form, much less the desire to conduct such negotiations," added Choi Son-Hee.

Against this background, progress is noticeable in the negotiations of Pyongyang and Seoul. So, for the whole of 2018, Kim Jong Un held three meetings with his South Korean counterpart, Moon Jae-In. Following their results, the countries disarmed their guard zones at the Panmunjom frontier, connected the roads and began the process of connecting and modernizing the railways.

At the same time, on Friday, March 22, the DPRK made a decision to leave the joint liaison office in Kaeson’s South Korean office, where regular negotiations between the two states took place. Seoul regretted this decision.

"The Korean government regrets the decision of the authorities of the North to leave the liaison office and urges the North to return in the near future, so that the joint South-North liaison office will be put into action, as previously agreed by both parties," the South Korean Ministry of Association said.
