It is reported by the regional office of the Ukrainian police.
“It has been established that unknown persons abducted from the memorial complex, where soldiers who died in World War II during the liberation of Melitopol from the German invaders were buried, the metal section of the fence and damaged the metal star of the Eternal Flame,” the statement says.
It is noted that at the moment law enforcement officers are investigating all the circumstances of the incident and are looking for vandals.
Upon the incident, criminal proceedings were opened on the grounds of Part 3 of Art. 297 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of the grave, another burial place or the body of the deceased).
In April 2018, it was reported that in Ukraine nationalists desecrated the memorial complex to those who fell during the Second World War.
