“Ice moved from the spot: we have the first criminal proceedings regarding illegal border crossing!” He wrote on a page on Facebook.

According to him, on December 11, border guards of the Belgorod-Dniester detachment of the Southern Regional Administration detained a 32-year-old Moldavian citizen who tried to enter Ukraine, bypassing checkpoints, as he had previously been banned from entering for 10 years.

He added that "the criminalization of this act in the conditions of the Russian aggression against Ukraine has provided an effective legal mechanism for confronting this dangerous social phenomenon."

On November 7, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a law that provides for the introduction of criminal liability for illegal crossing of the border by citizens of the “aggressor country”.

According to the law, illegal crossing of the state border will be punished with imprisonment for up to three years, repeated committing of such acts or committing them by a group of persons - up to five years, and committing them using weapons - up to eight years.
