The enormous gain of the Greens in the state election in Hesse could bring the party several direct mandates: First elected directly is Tarek Al-Wazir, leading candidate of the Greens in his hometown Offenbach. This is the Hesse-wide first direct mandate for his party at all.

The acting Minister of Economy and Transport won in the state election on Sunday in the constituency of Offenbach-city 27.5 percent of the vote, as the preliminary result of the provincial director shows.

Behind him lies the CDU candidate and acting Social Minister Stefan Grüttner with 22.5 percent. Grüttner held the direct mandate since 1995. Compared to the election 2013 Grüttner lost 13.1 percentage points, at that time he still took 35.8 percent. Al-Wazir scored 11.8 points in this election.

In the overall result, the Greens wrestle with the SPD for second place in the state parliament. While the Social Democrats lost about eleven percentage points, the Greens were able to gain about eight percentage points.

Winner of the election despite drastic losses, the CDU of Prime Minister Volker Bouffier, who has ruled so far together with the Greens. According to the projections of 21:30 clock, it is enough for the current election no longer for the Alliance.
