Libya's Grand Mufti Sadiq al-Ghariani said retired general Khalifa Haftar wanted to invade southern Libya and destroy it with African mercenaries and backed by money he described as "corrupt" from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

The Mufti of Libya described the war as "outlawed," noting that Hafter "does not find anyone to speak, deter or condemn him."
