The French association of zoological parks (AFDPZ) wrote to the Minister of Ecological Transition François de Rugy to condemn the hunting of birds with glue, which has just been officially authorized in five departments of southern France.

According to the president of the association, Rodolphe Delord, also director of the Beauval zoo-park, in the Loir-et-Cher, this hunt consists of sticking sticks or tree branches with strong glue to capture live birds , who then, by their cries, draw their congeners, "inflicts useless suffering on the birds."

An authorized hunt for two months in five departments. This "traditional" hunting was originally authorized by a ministerial decree published in August 1989 in five departments (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Alpes-Maritimes, Bouches-du-Rhône, Var and Vaucluse). The Council of State, seized twice, the last due to new elements by the League of Birds Protection (LPO), has just confirmed the legality.

In contradiction with European jurisprudence. This trapping is authorized from October 15th to December 15th. The captured animals are locked in the dark and when they are put back in the light they sing, attracting their congeners who are shot by the hunters. According to the AFDPZ, these sticky branches called "glues", intended for thrushes and blackbirds, "in fact trap all kinds of birds among which protected species or whose hunting is forbidden". "This decision comes in complete contradiction with European jurisprudence," says the AFDPZ. According to her, the Court of Justice of the European Union has condemned Spain and Malta for allowing this type of hunting on its territory.
