Former German Foreign Minister Ziegmar Gabriel has revealed that Qatar was on the verge of a military invasion in 2017 following the blockade imposed by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain in early June of the same year.

The former minister said in an interview with Al Jazeera that former US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson had a clear effort to prevent the invasion of Qatar, adding that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman "exceeded his limits because he thought he had a blank check from the White House."

He criticized Saudi Arabia's policies when he was foreign minister. In November 2017, he criticized her actions with Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri, who held him for days in Riyadh. He spoke about the "adventurous spirit" of the Saudi leadership in the Yemen war and the conflict with Qatar.

Gabrielle talks about an imminent military invasion that threatened Qatar last year with a statement by Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah at a press conference in Washington in August 2017. He revealed the success of mediation in stopping military intervention following the outbreak of the Gulf crisis.

"The military option to resolve the Qatari crisis has not been and will not be in any case," she said in a joint statement.
