Rafael Nadal has given a million euros to the victims of the floods that had killed thirteen in October on the island of Majorca where he comes from, said Thursday the mayor of the municipality most affected.

"We must thank the sensitivity he has shown". The Spanish star of tennis "wants to make a significant economic donation to all those affected, (up to) a million euros," said the mayor of the municipality of Sant Llorenç, Mateu Puigròs, in a video. "On behalf of the municipality and residents, especially those affected by the flood of October, we must thank the sensitivity he has shown since the beginning, after what happened here in Sant Llorenç" , he added.

Thirteen dead, including six foreigners. On October 9, the inhabitants of Sant Llorenç were caught unawares by the rising water of a torrent following torrential rains and had only a few moments to get away from the current. In total, the floods that hit this island of Baleares killed thirteen people including six foreigners - three Germans, two British and one Dutch. Originally from the nearby town of Manacor, Rafael Nadal immediately lent a hand to the inhabitants to clean the town. He had also made available his tennis academy Manacor to accommodate those affected.
