Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has sharply attacked Germany and France in immigration policy. French President Emmanuel Macron is the leader of the European forces that support immigration, Orbán said.

He sees himself therefore obliged to oppose Macron. "It's not personal, but it's something that concerns the future of our country, and if it arrives at what he wants in connection with migration, it would be bad for Hungary, so I have to fight him," Orbán said.

Germany does not respect Hungary's decisions in migration policy, added the head of government. He feels under constant pressure, especially from the German media, to have to let immigrants into the country. "I do not see that a compromise is possible here."

Orbán said he would be pleased if anti-immigrant parties won a majority vote in the European elections in May. The aim of his country was to then enforce an anti-immigration policy in the EU Commission.

At the same time Orbán spoke for the time being against joining his country to the euro zone. There is no target date for it, he said. His government will closely monitor the developments. "If it's in our interest, we can decide that we join." Hungary has been part of the European Union since 2004 and at that time agreed to introduce the single currency as well.
