Investigating judges have been tasked with conducting the French investigation into the March crash of an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX that was operating the Addis Ababa-Nairobi route, the Paris public prosecutor said on Wednesday. The Paris prosecutor's office opened an investigation on the day of the accident, on March 10, due to the presence of seven French nationals among the 157 victims.

Investigation for "involuntary homicide"

The judicial information, opened Tuesday for "manslaughter", was entrusted to three magistrates instructors of the pole of collective accidents of the court of Paris. The plane of the Ethiopian company crashed a few minutes after its takeoff, less than five months after the crash of another 737 MAX 8 of the Indonesian company Lion Air (189 dead). This second accident led to the immobilization of the entire 737 MAX fleet around the world.

The preliminary report on the causes of the crash is expected to be released this week. In both accidents, the aircraft followed erratic trajectories, descending and rising abnormally. At the end of March, a source familiar with the matter told AFP that the MCAS anti-stall system, implicated in the Lion Air 737 MAX 8 crash, was also activated in the Ethiopian Airlines aircraft shortly before the camera does not sting and crashes. Boeing defended itself last week by introducing changes to the MCAS to regain public confidence and convince authorities to lift the flight ban on the 737 MAX.
