Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that the US, through bilateral channels at a high political level, had confirmed to the Russian side that the decision to quit the INF Treaty was final.

In early December, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the United States would stop fulfilling its obligations under the treaty if "Russia does not return to its execution within 60 days."
