Antoinette de Jong is well on her way to the European title all round in Collalbo. The Friezin won on Friday both the 500 and the 3,000 meters on the famous outdoor course.

De Jong stayed the Russin Elizaveta Kazelina (second in 39.26) and the Italian Francesca Lollobrigida (third in 39.56) at the 500 meters with a time of 39.19 seconds.

The rider of Team Jumbo-Visma left the Czech Martina Sáblíková (second in 4.08.22) and Lollobrigida (third in 4.11.28) a few hours later on the 3.000 meter with 4.08.07 minutes.

Ireen Wüst has almost lost her title. The Brabantse had to settle for the 500 meters with 39.72 with the fourth place and did not go beyond the seventh place with 4.14,61 on the 3,000 meters.

Carlijn Achtereekte no longer plays a role in the battle for gold. The Overijssel was 40.91 tenths on the 500 meters and 4.11.93 fifth on the 3,000 meters.

De Jong leads with 80.535 points, followed by Lollobrigida (81.440 and a backlog of 2.72 seconds on the 1.500 meters), Wüst (82.155 and 4.86), Sáblíková (82.320 and 5.36) and the Russin Natalia Voronina (82,643 and 6.33).

Skaters ride this weekend with crape

The skaters ride this weekend with a funeral band as a tribute to Paulien van Deutekom. The South Holland died last week at the age of only 37 years from the effects of cancer.

The organization in Collalbo also asked for a moment's silence before the start of the races in memory of the world champion all-round of 2008.

The European Championship all round is held for the third time in the Italian part of South Tyrol. Wüst finished second in both 2007 and 2011 behind Sábliková.

Wüst attended Van Deutekom's funeral last Wednesday. She had been closely involved with her sickheart girlfriend in the last few months, but canceling her for the European Championship all round was not an option.

"Paulien would never have done that either, which would never have given up beforehand, so I'll go along anyway, as a tribute to Paulien, but I have to put a button in my head," Wüst told the NOS .
