The last presidential candidates have been tabled until Wednesday night at midnight local time at the Moroni Supreme Court. Twenty candidates will be running on March 24 for the first round of early presidential elections. Following the change of Constitution last July, President Azali Assoumani decided to run for his own succession. Long accused of neutralizing his opponents with arbitrary court rulings, he still has nineteen on his way.

Some candidatures were expected, such as the two opponents of Azali Assoumani in the second round of the last presidential elections of 2016 or that of Salim Saadi, the candidate from the diaspora or Moustoifa Said Sheikh, in politics for decades.

Others, on the other hand, have created a surprise. The deputy invested by the Juwa party, of the former president Sambi, will face him a member of the same party dissatisfied with the primaries, which suddenly, presents himself as independent.

Fractures are also day in the camp of President Azali since the former first secretary of his party, faces him. Nominations that the Mouroua party denounces as a juxtaposition of individual interests. He insisted that the plural opposition present a single candidacy against President Azali which she agrees to denounce dictatorial drifts.

This party refuses to participate in " elections with a confused constitutional basis ". In addition, the Supreme Court has until February 10 to decide on the validity of the candidatures.
