US President Donald Trump has suffered a setback in his efforts to tighten immigration policy. A federal court in California issued an injunction on Monday. This is to override a controversial new provision whereby asylum seekers can be returned to Mexico for the duration of their US procedure.

However, the order only comes into force on Friday. Until then, the government can appeal. Trump sharply criticized the decision and the court on Tuesday.

"It's a shame," said Trump on the sidelines of a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi at the White House. It has to do with a court system "that never decides for us". Previously, Trump had already designated the court order on Twitter as "unfair to the US".

Judge Richard Seeborg justified his decision among other things with the obligation of the government not to return asylum seekers in "excessively dangerous conditions".

Regulation goes back to Nielsen

The civil rights movement ACLU said in response to the court ruling, "The president can not ignore our laws to achieve his goal of preventing people from seeking asylum here."

The controversial new regulation has been in force since January and goes back to Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen, who is leaving office this Wednesday. Trump had announced on Sunday that Nielsen will leave her post. One reason was not mentioned. US media reported that Nielsen had been forced to resign. On Monday, Trump's spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said Nemsen's secret service director, Randolph Alles, was about to vacate his post.

Prominent departures of the Trump government: And you're out

Trump disagreed on Tuesday media reports, after which he advocates against unpleasant persons in the Department of Homeland Security. He also denied reports that he considers separating children from their parents on illegal entry. This practice had Trump ended in June last year after massive criticism again. Regarding migration laws in the US, Trump said, "We have the worst laws in any country in the world."
