Facebook on Wednesday changed privacy settings in its application for conversations and subscriptions, allowing users to specify who can add them to chat groups.

The company said the settings will be released today to some users and will be available worldwide in the coming weeks.

The announcement comes amid growing discontent with the approach of the world's largest social networking company with privacy and user data as well as growing concerns about its advertising practices.

Any user who wants another invitation to a chat group will have to send a private invitation via an individual conversation, giving the future a choice about joining the group or not. The invitation expires three days later.

Watsab, which has about 1.5 billion subscribers, seeks to find ways to end abuse of the application, following international concerns that the platform is used to publish fake news, fabricated images, videos without context and deceptive audio clips.
